Hi! I’m still alive and reading! Holly – well she’s still alive. She’s still reading. Maybe if I send her enough obnoxious emails and texts she’ll even tell me what she’s reading and come review it. We moved which was suck-tacular and I still can’t find all my books which is traumatic. As a result of the trauma and just way too much going on for all of August I am compensating by reading all the books at once. This is me basically
Here’s what I’m reading – when I’m not reading Rainbow Fairy books with Babycakes (oh the pain – we’re starting The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe this week)
Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake – sister queens who want to kill each other and magic? Yes please.
The View from the Cheap Seats by Neil Gaiman – totally savoring this and then forcing it on the husband.
The Swan Riders by Erin Bow – Deliciously creepy. I loved The Scorpion Rules and I’m excited to see where this goes.
The Devourers by Indra Das – so compelling yet also grossing me out.
Can I say I’m still reading Here Comes the Sun if I haven’t picked it up in weeks? They’ve been rough weeks. I will restart it because I need to give this a fair shot!
What are you reading? Have you read any of these books with an opinion on what I need to finish first?
Thanks to The Book Date for hosting this check-in!
The only one listed here I could comment on is the Rainbow Fairy series, but I’ll spare you (and me). I hope you find all of your books soon and that things slow down a bit.
Why why are there so many Rainbow Fairy books?!
Oh man, that’s a lot going on. Hoping you get your reading mojo back soon and that life settles back down!
I have really fond memories of my mom reading The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe to me as a kid. It’s her favourite series to this day. But I think it was also the last book that she read to me before I was like “I can read faster by myself, thanks.” Hope it’s a great reading experience for you and the little!
Thanks! I have the same memories of my dad reading The Lion.. thankfully for me the little is not quite ready to take off on her own. Much as I don’t want to read Rainbow Fairies the time with her is really great!
That is a lot 😉 I am reading one..listening to one and then there is this book I gave up on a month ago but has not dnfed yet
I hate that lingering decision! Do I go back after a month or call it a DNF
Hope everything settles in for you soon! I’m actually reading Here Comes the Sun myself.
Thanks! Hope you’re enjoying it! It’s heavy!
Yeah….I work in a library and the Rainbow Fairy books are kind of the bane of my existence….though sometimes I think I’m just jealous I didn’t come up with the idea of them myself and become a millionaire…! 😉
My sympathies to you! Though you’re right – the income from those would be nice. I am going to have to hide her from seeing them at the bookstore. Library copies are quite enough!
I had trouble with Here Comes the Sun as well – and really felt like I was in the minority. And “suck-tacular” – brilliant!!!
Ha! Thanks. I think suck-tacular works in quite a range of situations.
I feel like I tend to do the same thing when I’m super busy or in a reading rut – totally turn to ALL THE BOOKS type flailing. I hope you get a little peace and time soon!
Thanks! Hope for the same for you with school time!
You MUST start Here Comes the Sun over again !I’m super curious to hear what you end up thinking about The Devourers, too!
I hope things settle down soon, both life- and reading-wise.
Thanks! I’m trying and I swear I’m not giving up on Here Comes the Sun. Did you read the Devourers? It’s so strange I can’t decide what I think about it.
I am SO ticked that there was not more hoopla about the sequel to The Scorpion Rules. I would have already read it if I had known about it!
I can’t wait to see where she goes with it! I am hooked
I just added it to my B&N shopping cart. It will be mine!
Excellent life choice!
I don’t even have moving as an excuse, but am also stuck in the reading but not finishing book mode. I’ve got 5 or 6 things going and none are DNF bad, they’re simply not grabbing me enough. It’s an apathy for me right now.
I hate that! I hope you come across the right book. I like to reread something comforting when I get into that mood.
So many excellent books! The Swan Riders was a little slow to start, for me, but then I ended up absolutely loving it. I cried on the bus TWICE (where “cried” here means “teared up enough that it would have been noticeable to someone who looked at me”).
Excellent. I was slow to start partly because I was reading too many things. But I am into it now!
