Thanks to Kathryn from Book Date for this check in!
I finished my reread of Nevernight – and I still loved it- and am now bouncing between some very different books!
Still Roxane Gay – who OMG I AM GOING TO SEE TONIGHT!!!! Difficult Women is amazing but slow for me.
For a library book after reading Burntown (a total disappointment,) I started Severed: A History of Heads Lost and Found – which is going to be delightfully fascinating. I apologize in advance to everyone I’m about to share severed head facts with, it’s a compulsion to tell people all about my nonfiction reads.
For lighter reading I started Hold Me Like A Breath by Tiffany Schmidt. Teen angst + mafia style families dealing with selling organs seems right up my alley this week.
What are you reading this week? Anyone else catching the amazing Roxane on tour?
I am going to need a FULL report on your Roxane Gay event!
Do you listen to the My Favorite Murder podcast? I feel like with your enjoyment of severed heads and buried bodies, you’d really like it? I just preach about it all the time, don’t mind me…
ROXANE GAY!
I am the worst podcast person ever. It took me at least 9 mos to get through Serial. But I am definitely curious based on the title. I will try to check it out!
I had a similar experience with Difficult Women. It’s certainly not a book you can power straight through; you need to take some breaks and read something nice and fluffy!
Glad it isn’t just me!
Have fun tonight!!
She was amazing!
I wasn’t aware that Roxane Gay was touring. Summer vacation has begun and so has the extreme heat. Come see what I’m reading.
Hadn’t heard of Difficult Woman so my first time meeting it here. Nice to have something meaty and fluffy side by side. Do try Nalini Singh some time. I adore her books.
I swear I haven’t seen a bad review of Singh! I just need to get them onto the library list one of these days.
Oooh – so jealous that you’re seeing Roxane Gay! I love her on Twitter and bet she’d be great in person! Planning to listen to Hunger on audio at some point this summer.
She was incredible! The passage I heard her read was so brave – I can’t wait to read and yet am intimidated.
Ahh, I forgot about Severed! That one sounded like such an entertaining read. And who doesn’t love severed head facts to share with EVERYONE. 🙂
Yes! Severed head facts are definitely important to share!
“Teen angst+ Mafia style families selling organs”- best book synopsis EVER. I want to read this book now.
Was the Gay event amazing? I’ve heard she is a great speaker.
She was amazing! She is just clearly gifted with all of her words. I can’t imagine how it is to be one of her students.
The teen angst was just what I needed! Slightly predictable, but better than I expected. I am totally getting the companion at the library next time I go.
SO jealous you were able to see Roxane in person! The more of her writings I read and the more I learn about her, the more I truly admire her.
Oh! How was it seeing Roxane Gay? She seems so smart and great, I’d love to hear her talk!
She was amazing. Basically just as awesome as you’d imagine. I am jealous of her students!
