Happy Monday!
I’m still reading the amazing Roxane Gay’s Difficult Women. I’m moving through it now, but for every story that I read quickly the next one basically guts me (see Open Marriage) and then I’m stuck. I saw Roxane speak last week and she was just as amazing as you would hope. Funny and honest and way more open than I could be.
I’m finally getting into Severed: A History of Heads Lost and Heads Found which is not as highly entertaining as I wanted. Interesting but fairly dry so far. I think I am going need something pretty ridiculous to read at home. Maybe I’ll be the last person in America to read The Girl on the Train. I’m basically stalking my library hold list waiting for The Windfall to come in – Catherine’s review at The Gilmore Guide to Books got me even more excited!
What are you reading this week? Thanks to The Book Date for this check in!
Roxane does an excellent job of gutting her readers, doesn’t she? I need to get my hands on a copy of Hunger. I have heard it is her best yet.
I am reading stuuuuff. ugh tired head I think I a, gonna go suspense next
I haven’t read The Girl on the Train. It’s been a busy week with a cracked toilet, day camp, and paperwork for cross country. Come see what I’m reading
I requested that my library order The Windfall after Catherine’s review! And I’m heading on vacation next week so might possibly end up reading it there.
I need to stop visiting Catherine’s blog – i’m always adding more books to my list because of her. It’s not like she’s steered me wrong yet!
You’re obviously just savouring Difficult Women, which is the smart move.
I’m super disappointed that Severed isn’t as interesting or exciting as you’d hoped! How can a book about severed body parts NOT be interesting??
I have not read The Girl on the Train. So you aren’t the last person! I just finished Z for book club.
Woot! I just started Z for book club – she kind of fascinates me. I need to text you to meet up!
I just finished The Great Dissent and got all geeky about the history of the first amendment and the Supreme Court. Now I am craving more NF, but I can’t seem to find a good follow-up. (Do I dare read the review of The Windfall?)
oooh I love an NF craving. Have you read Jeffrey Toobin’s supreme court books? I can go on if you’re feeling NF in that direction… yes read the review! I think the Windfall sounds like one everyone should read!
Thanks for the tip! I will check out Toobin’s The Oath; that one sounds very interesting.
When it was actually Monday I was reading Roar by Cora Carmack which is really fun but I wasn’t feeling it. Today I switched to one of my most-anticipated 2017 sequels The Reluctant Queen by Sarah Beth Durst and it’s great so far.
Just finished Roar today. I was sadly struggling in the beginning but I did like it in the end. Definitely want to know what happens next!
Yeah. The premise is intriguing but a lot of the story fell flat for me with pacing. So it goes!
I’m feeling overwrought lately and have been in the mood for overwrought books, so I’m very happily reading If We Were Villains. It’s exactly what I wanted. I’ve been in a reading slump but If We Were Villains is pretty good for me.
I am really looking forward to this one. I hear you on the overwrought. Hugs to you, hope things calm soon
